Privacy Policy

Volodver LLC ("Volodver", "we", "us", "our"), a Colorado, USA company, operates tryal.dev — an online platform for practicing AL development for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and otherwise process personal data when you visit tryal.dev, create an account, solve problems, or contact us.
When you use tryal.dev with a personal account, Volodver is the data controller for your personal data. We rely on third-party platforms — your sign-in provider, our payment processor, and Microsoft — that operate under their own terms and policies.
We collect the following categories of data:
- Account data. When you sign up we collect your email address and a display name or handle. If you sign in with Microsoft or GitHub, we receive basic profile information (name, email, and an account identifier) from that provider. If you register with an email and password, we store a salted hash of your password — never the password itself.
- Practice data. The AL code you write, run, and submit; your run and submission history and verdicts; which problems you have attempted or solved; streaks; and the public handle and rank shown on the leaderboard.
- Subscription and billing data. Your plan (Free or Pro), subscription status, and billing period. Subscriptions are sold and billed through a third-party merchant of record that processes your payment, billing, and tax data under its own privacy policy as an independent controller; we receive confirmation and limited details (such as the last four digits of your card and your billing country) but do not store full payment card numbers.
- Usage and device data. Standard server logs (IP address, user-agent, referrer), pages and problems viewed, timestamps, device and browser details, cookie identifiers, and aggregate analytics.
- Local browser storage. To make the editor work, we store your theme, your in-progress code per problem, and progress in your browser's local storage. This stays on your device unless you submit code to us for grading.
- Support interactions. Information you choose to share when you contact us — emails, descriptions, screenshots, and diagnostic details. Please remove content you do not need us to see before sending it.
We do not intentionally collect biometric identifiers, precise geolocation, government identifiers, health data, or data from children.
- Provide and operate tryal.dev and your account.
- Compile, run, and grade your code submissions and record your progress, history, and leaderboard standing.
- Provide and bill for Pro subscriptions and enforce Free-plan limits.
- Provide support and send service messages such as grading verdicts, security notices, and account or billing notices.
- Diagnose issues and improve reliability, performance, and content.
- Protect users, systems, and intellectual property, and prevent fraud and abuse.
- Comply with legal obligations (tax, accounting, security).
- Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — creating your account and providing the platform and any paid subscription you request.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — security, abuse prevention, analytics, operating the leaderboard, and improving the service.
- Legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c)) — recordkeeping, billing, compliance, and safety.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — where required, for example certain cookies or optional marketing.
For US state privacy laws (such as CPRA, CPA, VCDPA, CTDPA, and UCPA), we act as a business / controller for the personal data we process about account holders.
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to operate the site, and we may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate usage. We do not use third-party ad networks, cross-context behavioral advertising, or session-replay and heatmap tools. Where required, you can manage non-essential cookies via a banner or your browser settings.
- Do Not Track. Our website does not respond to DNT signals at this time.
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising (as defined under California law). We may disclose personal data to:
- Authentication providers (Microsoft, GitHub) when you choose to sign in with them.
- Our merchant of record and payment provider, which sells and bills subscriptions on our behalf and processes payment, tax, and fraud-prevention data under its own privacy policy.
- Infrastructure and grading providers — hosting, the AL Platform that compiles and runs your submissions in Business Central containers, error reporting, and email — bound by confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
- Microsoft, as the platform underlying Business Central and AppSource (independent terms apply).
- Legal and safety recipients, where required by law or to protect rights, property, and safety.
- A successor, in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy or equivalent safeguards.
Your public handle and rank are visible to other users on the leaderboard by design; you may use a pseudonymous handle if you prefer.
We are based in the United States. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we implement safeguards required by law (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) and, where applicable, UK addenda.
We apply technical and organizational measures to protect personal data, including least-privilege access, encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and change control. No method is 100% secure; please use secure channels when sharing support materials.
We keep account and practice data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time, after which we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited records (for example, billing and tax records) to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce agreements. Support artifacts are typically deleted after the case is closed.
Your rights depend on your location and applicable law. Subject to limits and exceptions, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. If you have a tryal.dev account, you can view and update much of your data directly in your account settings.
You may also have the right to data portability and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. We will respond within legally required timelines.
We honor applicable state privacy rights, including:
- California (CPRA). Rights to know and access, delete, correct, and port your data; to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (we do not sell or share); to limit the use of sensitive personal information (we do not use it beyond permitted purposes); and to non-discrimination.
- Colorado / Connecticut / Virginia / Utah. Rights to know, access, delete, correct (where applicable), and port your data, and to opt out of targeted advertising, sale, and certain profiling. We provide an appeals process where required.
- Verification and authorized agents. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. California residents may use an authorized agent, subject to proof of identity and authority.
- Nevada. We do not sell "covered information" as defined by Nevada law; Nevada residents may still submit an opt-out request using the contact below.
Email privacy@tryal.dev with the subject "Privacy Request" and describe the right you wish to exercise. We will respond within the required timeframe. For Virginia, Colorado, and Connecticut appeals, reply "Appeal" to our decision notice; we will inform you of our final decision and how to contact your Attorney General if you remain unsatisfied.
tryal.dev is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
The Service and our documentation may link to third-party sites or services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will change the "Effective date" above and, when appropriate, provide additional notice. Changes apply prospectively.
Privacy-related disputes are handled under the same governing law, arbitration, and venue terms as our Terms of Service (individual arbitration in Denver, Colorado; no class actions), in addition to any non-waivable rights under applicable law.
